Thomas Gunn Miniatures: July Releases

Well, we're nearly at the end of July and here I am posting about a number of releases from TGM. Apologies for the late arrival of this post but if it's any consolation I haven't received anything in my inbox from TGM

As you will see form the images below the company has released quite a few figure sets this month relating to several of their existing ranges, as well as half a dozen mounted figures for what I assume is a new range. The images are available for closer inspection on their website but, as yet, there is no additional information to accompany them

Further details for the rest of the featured figures, including production runs and prices, are available on the company webby but I have to tell you that according to said site all of the Foreign Legion sets have already sold out so if you want one you will have to contact your local dealership and hope for the best

These barbarian horsemen look rather good. They'd go very nicely alongside some K&C or CS Romans I reckon. I particularly like the noble looking rider with the severed head hanging from his saddle!

As always with TGM, all these figure sets are being produced in limited numbers so if you want them you will have to hurry. Happy hunting!

Latest Additions: On Guard

Earlier this month K&C retired their WW2 German sentry box, an item I wasn't initially thinking of buying and hadn't included on my wish list. Having looked at the retirements list, and thought a bit more about where I might put one if I had it, I finally decided to buy one. In fact, I bought two and found what I reckoned was the perfect place to display them

I thought two of them would look just right positioned on either side of the entrance to my Collectors Showcase LAH barracks diorama, together with two of K&C's LAH 117 figures. The dio is by no means finished yet but you can see where the boxes have been positioned and if you imagine in your mind's eye the big K&C band marching to the one side, and the Fuhrer's black Mercedes driving in, or out, through the gates then you'll have some idea of what the final scene will look like

At the moment there's a Nazi billboard and a group of SA bill posters in the background looking ridiculously out of place. They won't be there for long as I've got a plan for another far more appropriately themed diorama for them. See what you think

Latest Additions

Time for the latest installment of my 'Latest Additions' series and this time it comes in the shape of no fewer than five figure sets from K&C's Normandy Germans range

The following photos were taken using my iphone rather than the Lumix G1, so the quality isn't up to the usual standard. Not only that, the figures are shown against a diorama backdrop but not one designed especially for them. As things stand just now, I'm rapidly running out of room to display them properly so I've shot them standing in front of an existing scene showing similar troops

One of the things I particularly like about these K&C figures is the variety of camouflage combinations they are depicted wearing, accurately reflecting the reality of life at the sharp end, especially during the latter stages of the war when equipment was in such short supply

The figures shown here have clearly been designed to work together, along with a handful of others in the series, as part of a small Waffen SS unit. I think they'd work really well lying in wait behind the hedges on either side of a road, ready to spring the trap on an unsuspecting enemy column once the lead vehicle has been disabled by the AT gun pictured below. Well, that's the idea for the dio sorted out. All I need now is a bit more space to set it up!

All of the above figure sets were retired by K&C last month, in one fell swoop, which made for quite an expensive June for me! You may still be able to get hold of them from your local dealer so best of luck if you need any of them

King and Country: Dispatches

Back to normal, or what passes for it in my world, with news of the latest releases and retirements from K&C. An image-heavy feast of delights, this is a brief summary of what's coming up in July. Further details, as always, are available on the company website. The images here are supplied by K&C and The Toy Soldiers Club in Canada. Here we go

First up, some additions to their very well received ACW ranges

And now for some Allied armour and artillery from WW2. I distinctly remember having a die-cast metal version of the artillery piece, two in fact, as a boy. They got a bit battered and bruised over the years and are now long since gone

That Allied armour is going to need something to shoot at, so how about this, K&C's latest version of the Jagdpanther tank destroyer. Nice!

WS228 “Jagdpanther Ausf. GI”

The Jagdpanther (or Hunting Panther) was a German tank destroyer built on the chassis of the already successful Panther tank. It combined the powerful 88mm gun of the Tiger tank with the excellent armour and suspension of the Panther

This all-new Jagdpanther (K&C’s last version goes back to 2004) is a battle weary one from the summer of 1944 covered in “zimmerit” paste that has been “chipped-away” in combat revealing the original rust-brown undercoat applied at the factory. Although most Jagdpanthers appeared on the Eastern Front they also fought in small numbers in the Battle of Normandy

A “winter” version will be released later in the year

A little while ago K&C released a lovely looking bunker inspired by part of the Atlantic Wall in Normandy. Well, here are some British marine Commandos that could be deployed to attack it

Once they're done with defeating the Germans and freeing occupied France they could perhaps find some relaxation 'behind the lines' and allow themselves to be served a refreshingly cool beer by these two likely gents. Sounds good to me!

First Legion: Oooops!

Hello again, and welcome to July. The sun is shining and there's an almost tangible 'feel good factor' here in the UK just now, what with The British Lions and Andy Murray showing the rest of the world how to play their respective sports

This is my first post of the month and to be honest it's come about as the result of an oversight on my part. Nevertheless, given the month and the subject matter of the post it's actually quite appropriate that I should post it now rather than when I originally intended to

The subject matter comes from the FL newsletter for June and consists of their 'sneak peak' at one of the latest figures in their not inconsiderable pipeline, this magnificent mounted model of the infamous Roman general and Emperor, the one and only Julius Caesar after whom the month of July is named!
