Simply Soldiers Update

Hello there one and all

It's coming up to a year now since I started this little project, and I've thoroughly enjoyed doing it. I'd just like to thank everyone who has taken the time to have a look and hopefully find something they have enjoyed reading or looking at

A few days ago the stats counter informed me that we had passed the 10,000 page views milestone, a figure I frankly didn't even imagine we would reach inside of a year, so once again I thank you, from the bottom of my.....

Just in case you were wondering, I have absolutely no intention of giving up and as soon as I've finished this little thank you I will be compiling a few more toy soldier posts to put up over the next day or two

Simply Soldiers Updates

Hi there, and thanks again for checking in

Those of you with a keen eye might have noticed one or two changes and additions to the layout, and for those of you who haven't, I'm here to let you know what they are

Firstly, I've reduced the number of links to my mixes hosted on Soundcloud. Rather than having each of them displayed in the widget bar to the right, I'm now displaying links to the two most played mixes and anything new, so at the moment that means there are three links. Please check them out if you haven't already done so, especially the newly published track with the rather long and, perhaps, slightly perplexing title. No prizes involved, but I'd very much like to hear from anyone who can tell me why I chose to give it that name

The other major change involves the establishment of the Simply Soldiers Store, powered by Amazon!

Why not pop in and take a look. You'll find a number of categories and loads of products gathered together, all related in some way to the content of the blog, including books on military history, roleplaying, wargaming, military modelling and toy soldiers, models of various kinds, DVDs and lots more

A Great BIG 'Thank You'

Hi everyone. I know this isn't a post about toy soldiers, airsofting, reenacting, wargaming or militaria collecting but, I hope you can forgive me

The blog has been running for less than a year and earlier today, according to the 'official' Blogger stats counter, it registered a little over 5,000 page views. I know this isn't huge, and hardly anything to write home about when compared with many other blogs out there, but I thought it was a tiny milestone worth celebrating

So, I'd just like to thank anyone who has taken the time to read any part of what I've put up here, or listen to any of the mixes I've uploaded to Soundcloud. I hope you've found something useful and/or entertaining here and, what's more, I hope you continue to do so

"Always Read The Label"

It's the beginning of July, and I've been 'blogging' now for the better part of 9 months, and I've only just found out about attaching labels to my posts! Doh!

So, you will notice that there is now a 'Labels' box at the top right hand side of the widgets column, allowing you to browse the pages that may be of interest to you a lot more easily

Dates For Your Diary

Hi there. The somewhat strangely titled element of the blog 'Points of Interest' has now changed, some of you may have noticed, and is now called 'Dates For Your Diary', a much more appropriate heading for what was essentially, and still is, a list of events you may be interested in attending or, at the very least, finding out about

There are no dates associated with the events named either this time round. I have made each of them a link to the website associated with the event/event organisers, so if you click on it that should take you to the relevant URL and you can find out the dates of forthcoming events as well as sundry additional titbits of information. I hope you find this useful

A major event on the militaria collector's calendar coming up this weekend, of course, is the militaria convention at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire on Sunday, January 30th. I will be in attendance, all being well, along with thousands of others, and hope to bring you news of the show, together with some pictures, shortly thereafter

Also added to the site is an image link to Arnies Airsoft and a news feed to same

Happy New Year, One And All

A happy and prosperous 2011 to one and all, the whole, wide, wonderful world over

  

Well, here in the UK it is very nearly the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011. I wonder what the New Year will bring

One or two friends have already 'hit the ground running' so to speak and been very quick off the mark in releasing their January 2011 updates. Mark and Dave over at TM Terrain, for example, have already published next month's newsletter crammed full of juicy tit bits from John Jenkins Designs, First Legion and The Collectors Showcase

Take a look at the 'news' and 'product update' links sections of the blog over the next few days and I'm sure you will find plenty there to make you smile and get your heart racing. And don't forget, King and Country will be posting their January dispatches very soon, probably early on next week, and I, for one, am looking forward to that with eager anticipation

News, news, news

Each and every month toy soldier manufacturers, airsoft manufacturers and retailers, military model producers of every size, shape and persuasion, announce the release of new and potentially exciting product. How on earth do you keep up with the sheer volume of 'stuff' coming on to the market? The answer is, well, it's pretty much impossible

Even if I restricted myself to one particular area say, for example, toy soldier collecting, I couldn't possibly review or even refer to everything coming out in any given month. So, as I come across something that takes my fancy, I will put a post up on the blog. Predominantly, I will refer to manufacturers and retailers whose products I personally like and, more often than not, purchase myself

I've also included links to a number of manufacturers and retailers whose products and services I particularly value or consider to be good value for money. These can be found in the 'Links.....' area of the blog and from time to time I will create similar links within posts. There are also a number of images, mainly at the bottom of the page, which will take readers directly to certain sites. Some manufacturers or retailers who have websites also have blogs and I have included links to a selection of these in the area headed 'My Blogs List'. Some produce monthly newsletters and/or product updates on their websites and where this is the case I will be creating separate areas on the blog linking readers directly to these pages

Up And Running

Simply Soldiers is up and running, an information gateway and exchange for anyone interested in sharing my passion for wargaming, airsofting, living history reenactment and toy soldier collecting. I will be taking in the delights of the Birmingham Toy Soldier Show this weekend and will be including a review of the show, together with some colourful images, as soon as is humanly possible after the event. Hopefully, lots of people will be there to make it a thoroughly worthwhile event. See you there
